Andrew Foulkes

Andrew’s career has been varied and challenging. After achieving post graduate experience in Surgery (FRCS), Obstetrics and Gynaecology (MRCOG) he embarked in a career in General Medical Practice.  Andrew has combined his role as a General Practitioner with a number of other interests, but the work as a commissioner, first with West Sussex Health Authority in 1996, and then with Primary Care Groups, Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and then with NHS England (as the Medical Director for Surrey and Sussex) has been very influential. During this time he has remained in clinical practice and is committed to making the NHS work for the benefit of patients.

Andrew remains in clinical practice and continues to retain an interest in how the NHS changes to meet the needs of our patients. He has a real working knowledge of how the NHS works and in particular how primary care and community services can help to meet the need so our patients. He is committed to the NHS and recognises that the changes that are required are complex and challenging and see the Senate as a way of achieving this through clinical leadership.
