Dr Hugh Farrell McIntyre BA MBBS MA MD FRCP FESC FRSA

Hugh trained at Oxford University and Westminster Medical School.  He is currently a Consultant Physician at Conquest Hospital, Hastings, East Sussex and Hon. Reader at Brighton and Sussex Medical School where he was previously the MSc Cardiology Course Director.

Hugh is a member of the South East England AHSN Improvement Board; the Lead for Acute Heart Failure and a member of the KSS Cardiac Strategic Clinical Network Steering Group. Previously he was the Medical Director and Divisional Director of Medicine at East Sussex Healthcare Trust.

Hugh has been involved in the NICE Heart failure Guideline group (2008-10) and STEMI Guideline Group (2011-13); He was a Peer reviewer - Acute Heart Failure Guideline (2014). Chair of Heart Failure Quality Standards Group (2010-12) and Chair of NICE Quality Standards Advisory Committee (2012- onwards). He was a member of the NICE Multi-morbidity Project Group, Social Value Judgement Steering Group and Safe Staffing Advisory Committee. Department of Health: Heart Failure Tariff working Group and Cardiovascular Outcome Strategy Group.

Hugh is an Editorial Board member for the British Journal of Cardiology and the European Journal of Heart Failure. He is a frequent journal reviewer with over 100 publications.

Hugh’s clinical interest is in cardiovascular medicine notably heart failure and frailty but my wider interests encompass rational decision making and understanding value in healthcare within ethical and moral frameworks.
